Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft undertakes applied research of direct usage to enterprises and public authorities as well as to the benefit to society. It is the largest organization for applied research in Europe, integrating 66 institutes and independent research units in Germany, international research centers and representative offices.
Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering (IAO) , the participating Institute at DESTRIERO, has about 500 scientific employees. It focuses on support of enterprise ecosystems and their business demands by innovative information technologies. A holistic approach is applied to the study of commercial success, employees’ interests and social consequences. The Institute helps companies to identify the technologies of relevance to them, and draws up a realization strategy aligned to the competitive environment and the market.
Security research projects
The Competence Team for Information Management at the Fraunhofer IAO has a long and consolidated experience in realizing and managing national and international research projects in the field of civil security. It participates in several research programs funded by German and by European organizations.
In a national security research project VeRSiert (Cooperation of Municipalities and Public Transport Institution for the Security at Large Events in Cologne) a cooperation portal for several governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, mobile services for flexible collaboration of different groups and organizations and the overall integration approach were designed.
In the ongoing EU project SECUR-ED (Security of Urban Public transport – European Demonstration) Fraunhofer IAO is responsible for interoperability and information management and involved in simulation and competence management. In the EU-project CRISMA the overall crisis management will be modeled, and in the national project INKA the professional involvement of volunteers in crisis reaction is supported.
